Burleigh House

The Burleigh House involved the reprogramming of an existing single-storey brick & tile house to meet the needs of a young growing family. Two existing bedrooms at the rear of the house were transformed into new north-facing living spaces with a seamless connection to the lawn and garden. This was critical to the design as our client’s and their 2 young children regularly spend many hours in the garden tending to vegetables, herbs and chasing butterflies. North light floods into the new living spaces all year round and thermal mass in the floor traps heat to provide a beautiful, warm spot to spend winter mornings. The external terrace acts as a connection between the front and backyards, while the trellised creeper protects the internal living spaces from the harsh western sun.
