The Luisa House involves the grafting of a new lightweight wing onto an existing brick cottage to meet the needs of a growing young family.
The new works contain a carport, master suite and living area all positioned lower than the original house.
This height change creates a strong threshold between new and old with various levels of engagement explored through the proposed design. An existing favourite tree is now celebrated by new circulation space created along the threshold allowing engagement & contemplation. Soaring double height spaces now allow northern light to flood through both new and old spaces.
